EASY LIKE - C6TH TUNING (by Barney Kessel, arranged by Andy Volk) (PDF Digital Download)
EASY LIKE is an original song by seminal jazz guitarist Barney Kessel that appeared on his 1956 Contemporary Records LP of the same name. While not a blues in structure, the song has a down home bluesy feeling that’s reinforced by the repeated 6-note musical motiff that appears repeatedly, similarly to a riff-based blues tune. The final Cmaj9 chord could be replaced by a C dominant chord to serve as a turn-around for multiple choruses. Everything Kessel played was marked by a deep feeling for the blues married to a propulsive feeling for swing. NOTE: THIS IS A DOWNLOADABLE PDF FILE. AUDIO SAMPLE BELOW.
C6th TUNING
C6th tuning is one of the most popular and versatile lap steel tunings in use today due to the wide range of available chord inversions available in the straight bar and slant positions and the logical way scale tones lie on adjacent strings. C6th is used in diverse genres of music including Western Swing, Jazz, Hawaiian, Blues, Pop, Sacred music and melodic Rock & Roll. The notes of the tuning spell out both a C6th chord and an Amin7 chord, but the tuning is popularly called C6th.
