ABOUT THE SONG/SOLO (AUDIO BELOW):

 “Garota de Ipanema” (“The Girl from Ipanema”) is a Brazilian bossa nova song composed in 1962 by Antonio Carlos Jobim.  Stan Getz’s tenor saxophone solo on the LP recording (featuring the vocal debut of Astrud Gilberto) is one of the most iconic, perfect solos in the history of recording. Getz paraphrased the melody brilliantly, interweaving through the complex and unusual chord progression with aplomb.

C6th tuning is one of the most popular and versatile lap steel tunings in use today due to the wide range of  available chord inversions available in the straight bar and slant positions and the logical way scale tones lieon adjacent strings. C6th is used in diverse genres of music including Western Swing, Jazz, Hawaiian, Blues Pop,  Sacred music and melodic Rock & Roll. The notes of the tuning spell out both a C6th chord and an Amin7 chord, but the tuning is popularly called C6th.
