Sunset is an original tune credited to legendary steel guitarist Speedy West. It appeared on his 1960 Capitol LP Speedy West - Steel Guitar. In his recording of the song, Speedy made extensive use of his foot-operated volume pedal to swell into chords. In my arrangement, I have indicated this technique for just a few specific accents. Depending on where it’s placed on your instrument, it can also often be accomplished via the volume control on the face of the guitar.
The A6th tuning was a favorite of steel legend Leon McAuliffe as well as other Western Swing and Hawaiian steel players, such as Billy Hew Len. In A6th, at the third fret, on strings 1-5, we have the same intervals as the C6th tuning’s string 1-5. Rather than having a root on top like C6th, the A6th tuning has the fifth of the A major scale on top.

Note: Midi audio usually sounds closer to a keyboard than a steel guitar but it is useful for demonstrating the rhythms, feel and overall intent of an arrangement or musical passage. Make this music come alive on your steel guitar!
