Enchanted Sea is a haunting, atmospheric song written by written by Frank Metis and Randy Starr in 1959 and recorded by “The Islanders” that same year. Enchanted Sea was covered by a diverse group of exotica musicians incluing Les Baxter and Martin Denny, and country artists like Chet Atkins. Perhaps most notable for steel guitarists, is the beautiful version recorded by Santo and Johnny on their LP “Off Shore.” My arrangement is a basic melody arrangement in two related tunings: C6th and A6th. In C6th, the E note is the third of the chord created by the open strings. In A6th, the same E is the 5th of the chord. The slight difference in tuning and timbre leads to a slightly diffent sound despite the identical notes.
C6th TUNING:
STRING # 6 5 4 3 2 1
NOTES: C E G A C E
A6th TUNING:
STRING # 6 5 4 3 2 1
NOTES: C# E F# A C# E

Note: Midi audio usually sounds closer to a keyboard than a steel guitar but it is useful for demonstrating the rhythms, feel and overall intent of an arrangement or musical passage. Make this music come alive on your steel guitar!
