ARRANGED FOR LAP STEEL IN TABLATURE + STANDARD NOTATION (audio sample below)
Antonio Carlos Jobim is the Mozart of the Bossa Nova. He has written more original songs that have become standards than any other composer of the Bossa Nova era of the early 1960s. The song is one of the most-often performed of the Bossa standards.
This arrangement for C6th lap steel stays largely with single notes. The lilting melody sits perfectly in this tuning and it’s a fun tune to play. It features an intro and outro played by just the rhythm guitar (or rhythm section).
C6th tuning is one of the most popular and versatile lap steel tunings in use today due to the wide range of available chord inversions available in the straight bar and slant positions and the logical way scale tones lie on adjacent strings. C6th is used in diverse genres of music including Western Swing, Jazz, Hawaiian, Blues, Pop, Sacred music and melodic Rock & Roll. The notes of the tuning spell out both a C6th chord and an Amin7 chord, but the tuning is popularly called C6th.
