Caravan is a popular jazz standard that crossed over into other genres like Western Swing, Exotica and Pop music. Duke Ellington first recorded Caravan in 1936. My arrangement follows the common practice of playing the [A] section’s melody over a Latin beat while the [B] section is played in Swing tempo. It makes a great steel guitar tune and players such as Jody Carver have recorded cool versions. This arrangement is in a different tuning and key than the one in my book “C6th Gold” and takes advantage of the dominant chordal tonality of Jerry Byrd’s E9th tuning.
