Ray  Charles’ music was a potent mix of multible genres of music including blues, gospel, country and Latin. What I’d Say is an American rhythm and blues song by Charles released in 1959. After his run of R&B hits, this song finally broke Charles into mainstream pop music and itself sparked a new subgenre of R&B titled soul.

This arrangement, while not an exact transcription, attempts to translate some of what Charles did on keyboard to lap steel. By tuning the 6th string C note in the standard C6th tuning up 1/2 step to C#, we get an A7th chord on the bottom four strings and access to 7th and diminshed  voicings and alternate bass notes. There is a lot of room in this arrangment for you to substitute bars with your own improvisations, as Charles did in every  performance.
