Slowly was written by Webb Pierce and Tommy Hill written in 1954. It was a landmark recording in Country music largely because of Bud Isaacs‘ use of the pedal steel guitar. Pedals had exisited before but hadn‘t been used to audibly change chords in mid-song. My arrangement for lap steel uses slants, multiple chord glisses, and behind-the-bar string bends to give some fo the flavor of typical pedal steel moves.

OPEN D Tuning (Low to High)

D A D F# A D

OPEN E Tuning (Low to High)

E B E G# B E

Too play the arrangement in Open E, simply play the same tab positions and raise the backing chords up one whole step.

Note: Midi audio usually sounds closer to a keyboard than a steel guitar but it is useful for demonstrating the rhythms, feel and overall intent of an arrangement or musical passage. Make this music come alive on your steel guitar!
