HANK GARLAND was one of the finest session and jazz guitarists in America when an automobile accident ended his career in 1961. Garland’s song “Sugarfoot Rag” (credited to Garland and Vaughn Horton), was originally written as a flat picking excercise. It was recorded by Garland and released in 1949, selling over a million records. Since then, it’s been become iconic and has been covered by many guitarists over the years. This arrangement for lap steel begins with a single note version arranged by steel guitarist Mike Neer combined with my own chord melody arrangement of the song for the second chorus.
