Tahitian Skies was written by the English country guitarist Ray Flacke and which appeared on his solo acoustic album “Songs Without Words”. Chet Atkins and Mark Knopfler popularized the song when they included it on their 1990 duo album “Neck and Neck.” Tahitian Skies conveys a relaxed feeling that conjures up a tropical idyll without ever resorting to any of the cliches of island-style music. 

My arrangement for electric lap steel is based on Ray Flacke’s acoustic guitar version as well as a cover by Australian finger style virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel but is not a 100% faithful transcription of what Flacke wrote or played, but my interpretation of and variations on Flacke’s main themes - all in effort to make the song work well on lap steel. It sits very well in C6th tuning.
